BB: Fordham Edges Hofstra In Pride's Home Opener

Hempstead, NY – Pinch hitter Mark Donadio's three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning put Fordham ahead, 7-6, and a pair of Rams relievers kept Hofstra off the scoreboard the rest of the way as Fordham came away with the victory Wednesday afternoon in the Pride's home opener at University Field.

Hofstra slipped to 5-11 on the season with the loss, while Fordham upped its mark to 6-10.

Teddy Cillis had put Hofstra up, 3-2, with a three-run home run in the second inning before Fordham tied the game in the third. The Pride went ahead in the bottom of the inning on Vito Friscia's RBI single, but the Rams tied it up again on the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Ian Edmiston.

A two-run single from Nick Bottari in the bottom of the fifth gave Hofstra the lead once again, 6-4. However, Fordham's first two batters in the sixth reached via walk and Donadio came on to pinch hit. The junior righty hit an opposite field home run to clear the bases and put the Rams on top. From there, Parker Barnell pitched two scoreless innings before yielding to Anthony DiMeglio for the final two frames. DiMeglio got into a little trouble in the eighth and ninth, but was able to pitch out of it. He allowed a one-out single to Kevin O'Connor in the eighth and then walked Steven Foster before striking out the final two hitters to end the threat.  In the ninth he allowed a leadoff single to Ryan Karl, but got a double play ball on the next batter and then a foul out to end the game for his second save.

Anthony Zimmerman was the pitcher of record on the winning side for Fordham. He allowed two runs on three hits in an inning of work to improve to 1-0. Edmiston and Ryan Mahoney also had home runs for the Rams.

O'Connor had three hits for the Pride, while Cillis, Friscia and Karl each contributed two hits. Brendan Mulligan (0-1) took the loss in relief of starter Dave Jesch, Mulligan was charged with all three runs in the sixth inning.

Hofstra travels to Ohio State this weekend for a three-game series with the Buckeyes beginning Friday at 5:05 p.m.

Notes:
-Zach Altieri made his season debut with two scores innings of relief
-Six of Fordham's 10 hits were for extra bases
-Ryan Karl has three doubles in the past two games
