BB: Hofstra Falls At No. 4 Texas A&M

College Station, TX - Ryan Karl, Brad Witkowski and Teddy Cillis each had multiple hits for Hofstra, but No. 4 Texas A&M used two big innings to post a 15-4 win Saturday afternoon at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Stadium. The Aggies erased a 3-1 deficit with four runs in the third and six in the fifth.  

Hofstra falls to 0-2 on the season, while Texas A&M improves to 2-0.

After falling behind in the first, 1-0, the Pride rallied for three runs in the second. Karl led off the inning with a solo home run. Vito Friscia walked and Cillis had singled and, following a fly out, Witkowski came through with a two-run single to give the Pride a 3-1 advantage.

The Aggies rallied in the third and took the lead for good as Boomer White led off with a single and came in to score on Nick Banks triple. Hunter Melton and Michael Barash delivered back-to-back home runs to cap off the four-run frame and give Texas A&M the 5-3 lead.

Texas A&M broke it open in the fifth with a six-run inning highlighted by a grand slam home run off the bat of Ronnie Gideon. The Aggies added three runs in the seventh, two coming in on a double from Melton.

Hofstra had a run in the fourth on a RBI double from Witkowski that scored Friscia.

Hofstra starter Chris Weiss (0-1) took the loss after allowing five runs on six hits in three innings. Corbin Martin (1-0) went five innings for the Aggies to earn the win, allowing three runs on five hits with nine strikeouts.

Witkowski, Cillis and Karl each went 2-4 on the day. Witkowski had three RBIs, Karl had a RBI and a runs scored and Cillis scored one run.

Melton went 5-5 including two home runs and drove in six runs. Banks had two hits and scored three times. Four Aggie players in total had multi-hit games.

The series concludes Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. EST.

-Vito Friscia reached base in all four plate appearances, walking three times to go along with a single
-Witkowski's three RBIs matched his career-high set multiple times
-Bowie Matteson will start the series finale for the Pride
