MBB: Hofstra Puts Win Streak On The Line At Charleston

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Men's Basketball team, coming off a 90-58 rout of Towson on Saturday, will put its four-game win streak on the line on Thursday when it heads south to Charleston for a 7 p.m. contest from TD Arena.

The four-game win streak is the longest of the season and marks the third win streak of at least three games this season for Hofstra.

There will be Pride Productions live video of the game (via Charleston) with links available on this page or via the men's basketball schedule page at GoHofstra.com. The Pride Productions audio only broadcast can be heard via the portal.

Hofstra is 10-4 through 14 games for the second consecutive season and that ranks as the second-best start through 14 games in the program's Division I history (since 1972-73). Only the 2005-06 and 1982-83 (both were 11-3) were better.

The game against Towson marked the Pride's most complete effort of the season as Hofstra was in complete control throughout and would end up beating the Tigers by 32 points. Junior guard Brian Bernardi led the way with 21 points, while sophomore center Rokas Gustys had nine points, 11 rebounds and three assists. Senior guard Juan'ya Green had another solid outing with 16 points, seven assists and five rebounds, while graduate forward Denton Koon continues his strong play as of late with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Hofstra is 10-4 overall and 2-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play and the Pride is one of only two conference schools (Northeastern) still with an unblemished CAA mark through two games.

Four members of the Pride average in double figures with Green leading the team with 17.1 points per game, while also dishing out a team-high 92 assists.

Green is approaching a pair of career milestones as he now has 1,950 career points to stand only 50 points shy of 2,000 for his stellar career. In addition, he has 819 points as a member of the Hofstra program and needs 181 to just a very exclusive club. With 1,000 points at Hofstra and Niagara (1,131) he will become only the fourth player to reach at least 1,000 career points at two different Division I institutions.

Charleston is 9-4 and 1-1 in CAA play after opening conference action with a 65-62 win over James Madison on December 31 before dropping a 78-70 contest at William & Mary on January 2.

Canyon Barry leads the Cougars with 19.7 points per game, while Jarrell Brantley is third on the team with 10.8 points and leads the squad with 6.5 caroms per contest.

Hofstra is 3-1 all-time against Charleston in a series that began when the Cougars joined the league beginning in 2013-14. The teams split the season series in 2013-14 with each winning on their respective home courts. Hofstra won both meetings a season ago, including a 71-66 victory in South Carolina.

The Pride will also face Elon on the southern swing as Hofstra visits the Phoenix on Saturday, January 9 in a game that will air on the American Sports Network and locally on SNY.
