MBB: Hofstra Hosts Drexel On Thursday Night

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Men's Basketball team will host longtime rival Drexel on Thursday night at 7 p.m. from the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.

Hofstra (11-5, 3-1 CAA) has won five of its last six games and is currently tied for first early on in the Colonial Athletic Association standings with William & Mary and Northeastern.

Fans can purchase tickets by visiting HofstraTickets.com, where it is now possible to print their tickets at home. In addition fans can also call (516) HOF-TIXX or visit the Hofstra Athletics Box Office in the Mack Sports Complex for more ticket information.

There will be Pride Productions live video of the game with links available on this page or via the men's basketball schedule page at GoHofstra.com. The Pride Productions audio only broadcast can also be heard via the portal.

Hofstra won an entertaining 80-76 decision over Elon in its last game down in North Carolina on Saturday. Sophomore center Rokas Gustys and senior guard Juan'ya Green keyed the win as Gustys had 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Green added 18 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Green, who leads Hofstra in scoring at 16.7 per game, is now only 22 points shy of 2,000 for his career. He would become only the second active player to reach that milestone as D.J. Balentine of Evansville has 2,119 career points. John Brown of High Point is also nearing the milestone as well with 1,983 career points.

Drexel is 3-12 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Dragons earned their first CAA win of the season on Saturday with a 61-54 victory over Charleston. That victory ended a five-game losing skid for Drexel. Tavon Allen leads the Dragons with 14.5 points and 3.0 assists per game, while Kazembe Abif leads the team with seven rebounds per outing.

All five starters are now averaging in double figures for Hofstra with senior forward Ameen Tanksley (16.4), junior guard Brian Bernardi (14.4), graduate forward Denton Koon (11.4) and Gustys (10.7) joining Green. Gustys is nearly averaging a double-double with 9.5 caroms per contest, while Green leads the Pride with 6.5 assists per game.

Saturday's game at Elon marked the 50th at Hofstra for the Pride trio of Green, Tanksley and Bernardi.

One of the Pride's oldest rivals, Hofstra and Drexel will be meeting for the 81st time on Thursday with the Dragons holding a 45-35 lead in the all-time series. The teams first met in the 1958-59 season with Hofstra earning a 70-64 win in the Middle Atlantic Championships. Hofstra swept the season series a year ago, but prior to that the Dragons had won seven straight in the series dating back to the 2010-11 season. The 81 all-time meetings ranks second all-time in terms of games played against an opponent for Hofstra. The Pride has only faced Delaware more as the Blue Hens and Hofstra have now met 82 times following the December 31 meeting.

The short home stand continues on Saturday for Hofstra as the Pride will host James Madison at 4 p.m. from the Mack Sports Complex.
