Hempstead, NY - Hofstra goalie
Chris Selva received his second award of the week as the senior netminder has been named the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division I Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Pride's 9-2 victory at 12th-ranked Towson last Saturday.
Earlier this week, Selva was named the CAA Player of the Week.
Selva, a quad-captain from Parkland, FL, came off the bench at Towson to help lead the Pride to the crucial CAA victory and post 12 saves in 43:17 of action.
Selva recorded four saves in each of the second, third and fourth quarters at Towson. He entered the game after starting freshman
Jack Concannon broke a string on his stick and had to be replaced by the two-time All-CAA second team selection.
Selva, who started the first 11 games of the season, now has all five Pride victories on the year. It was his fourth double-digit save contest of the season. He posted 15 saves at #13 Georgetown, 13 at #10 Ohio State and 12 against #16 Marquette.
Selva now has an 8.07 goals against average with 100 saves and a .521 save percentage this season. He ranks 12th in the country in goals against average.
The win boosted the Pride's season record to 5-8 and their CAA record to 2-2. It also kept Hofstra's hopes of earning one of the four CAA Championship berths alive, heading into the regular season finale at Fairfield on Friday night (April 24).
The CAA Men's Lacrosse Championship will be played at the home of the regular season champion with semifinals on Thursday, April 30 and the championship game on Saturday, May 2.
