MGOLF: Hofstra Finishes Fifth At Peacock Invitational

Neshanic, NJ - Hofstra shot a team score of 296 (+8), four strokes off the lead, and placed fifth at the St. Peter's Peacock Invitational at the Neshanic Valley Golf Club Tuesday afternoon. The 11-team event was won by the host school, which shot a 292 (+4) to win by one stroke over Fairfield and Fairleigh Dickinson.

David Mecca and Johnson Ko were Hofstra's top finishers, tying for 12th in the 66-player field at 73 (+1). Mecca had three birdies and 11 pars in his round, while Ko sank four birdies and posted nine pars in his 18-holes.

Sean Cavanaugh, who tied for the tournament lead with five birdies, tied for 20th at 74 (+2). David Won, who led the field in par three (2.75) and par five (4.25) scoring average and also had an eagle, tied for 31st at 76 (+4). Luke Smith shot a 77 (+5) to tie for 41st and Brandon Shin carded a 78 (+6) to finish tied for 44th.

As a team, Hofstra led in par three and par five scoring and had a tournament best 19 birdies on the day.

There was a five-way tie for first on the individual leaderboard at 71 (-1). After tiebreakers, the final results saw St. Peter's Brian Grubbs earn individual medalist honors. Brady Goodling (Monmouth), Aaron Simone (Rider), Tom Dandrea (Sacred Heart) and Matt Shubley (Sacred Heart) rounded out the top five.

Hofstra is back in action next Sunday and Monday at the La Salle-Finegan Invitational.
