MBB: Sunday Showdown At Drexel Next Up For Hofstra (Game On SNY)

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Men's Basketball team will head to the City of Brotherly Love on Sunday when the Pride face Drexel in the second of the two matchups between the schools this regular season.

The game will tip at 5 p.m. and be televised locally on SNY, with Rob Carlin and John Feinstein on the call. Check your local listings for broadcast information in your area.

The video broadcast of the game can be seen on the Hofstra portal and on CAA.tv. The broadcast is subject to blackout.

Live audio of the game will also be available via Pride Productions with Dan Savarino, Jackie Parsons and Kerri Schreiber on the call. That broadcast will begin at 4:45 p.m. and will also be available locally on WRHU (88.7 FM).

It has been a remarkable run for Drexel since the last time Hofstra and the Dragons faced each other back on January 21. Since that 86-58 Pride victory, Drexel has won six straight games to improve to 10-14 overall and 8-5 in league play.

Hofstra (16-10, 7-6 CAA) has won two of its three games during the month of February and currently sits in sixth place in the league standings.

Drexel is tied for fourth with James Madison. The Pride has five conference games remaining to improve upon its spot heading into the conference championship in Baltimore in March.

In its last game on Thursday, Hofstra dropped a 79-68 decision to Northeastern despite a double-double of 18 points and 10 assists from junior guard Juan'ya Green. It marked his team-leading eighth double-double of the 2014-15 campaign and he was one of three players in double figures as freshman forward Rokas Gustys had 13 points, five rebounds and four steals, while junior forward Malik Nichols added 12 points for the Pride.

Green and junior forward Ameen Tanksley have now scored exactly the same amount of points this season as they have each tallied 452 points to lead Hofstra with 17.4 points per game. Green is also tops on the team in assists (171) and steals (41). Tanksley ranks second on the team in rebounds with 6.0, trailing only Gustys who has 6.2 caroms per contest.

Damion Lee is clearly the Dragon's top player as he leads Drexel in scoring (21.1 ppg), assists (60) and steals (38), while ranking second on the team with 6.3 rebounds per game. Tavon Allen is second on the team in scoring with 10.8 points per outing.

In the last game between the Pride and the Dragons, sophomore guard Brian Bernardi scored 23 points, including six three-pointers, to lead the way as Hofstra pulled away in the second half for the dominating victory. Lee led all scorers in the game with 27 points.

Hofstra and Drexel have met 79 times on the hardwood, with the Dragons holding a 45-34 advantage in a series that began during the 1958-59 campaign. Drexel is Hofstra's second most-played rival as today's 80th meeting will be one less game than the Hofstra/Delaware series for the top spot. The Pride and the Dragons met in the Middle Atlantic Championships during the 1958-59 season and Hofstra won the first-ever meeting, 70-64. Drexel had won seven straight in the series prior to Hofstra's 86-58 victory on January 21 in Hempstead.

This contest will start the first of a quick two goal road swing for Hofstra as the Pride will head to Maryland next Wednesday to face Towson.
