Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Wrestling team's participation in the 34th annual Cliff Keen-Las Vegas Invitational came to a close in Saturday morning's session III at the Cashman Center.
Three Pride juniors,
Jamel Hudson at 141,
Frank Affronti at 174 and
Michael Hughes at 285, were eliminated with Saturday morning losses in the fifth round of wrestlebacks.
Hudson, who was 4-2 in the CKLV to improve to 8-3 on the season, was pinned by Bucknell's ninth-seed Tyler Smith at the 2:02 mark of their 141-lb match. Hudson was the fourth seed in the tournament. Affronti, who was 3-2 in the CKLV, was knocked out of the tournament by a a 7-5 decision to Army West Point's eighth-seed Brian Harvey at 174 pounds. Affronti, who was the 10th-seed at the CKLV, is now 16-6 on the year. Hughes, who was also 3-2 in the tournament, was eliminated by a 10-3 loss to Ohio State's fifth-seed and 18th-ranked Nick Tavanello at 285 pounds.
As a team, Hofstra finished in 30th place with 18 points. Eighth-ranked Missouri won the tournament with 154 points with 14th-ranked Cornell second with 113 points and 18th-ranked Minnesota third with 105. Seventh-ranked Oklahoma (102) and third-ranked Ohio State (96.5) rounded out the top five in the 40-team field.
The Pride will now break for semester finals before returning to action on December 29th at the Lock Haven Invitational.
