WSOC: Galton Earns Second-Team NSCAA All-America Selection

Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra senior forward Leah Galton ended her collegiate career with another impressive honor as she was named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-America second team selection.

Galton is the first Hofstra player to be named an All-America pick since Tiffany Yovino was a third-team selection in 2010. She becomes the fourth Hofstra player to earn the honor, joining Yovino, Brooke DeRosa (2007) and two-time selection Sue Weber (2005 and 2007).

Galton and junior midfielder Jill Mulholland were also picked to the NSCAA All Mid-Atlantic region first team. Freshman defender Madeline Anderson earned all-region third-team honors. Overall, the Colonial Athletic Association saw 15 players earn all-region selections, including six of the 12 first-team picks.

Just nine forwards made either the first-or-second All-America teams and Galton joined that exclusive list by scoring 12 goals and tallying six assists. Her 30 points marked the second straight year she reached that mark. She logged 89 shots despite drawing heavy defensive attention all season and became the first player in CAA history to win three conference Player of the Year awards.

Earlier in the week, Galton was named one of just 15 players on the women's side to be selected as a semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, which is the highest individual award presented to a player in intercollegiate soccer. Galton was one of just three players from mid-major schools to make the list.

Galton capped a brilliant four-year Hofstra career by scoring a program-record 122 points and tying for the all-time lead in assists with 26. Her 48 goals scored from 2012-15 is good for the second-most in team history. The Harrogate, England native earned her third consecutive Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year award this season, scoring 12 goals, notching six assists and posting 30 points on 89 shots. She is the only three-time winner in CAA history and was also a three-time Preseason Player of the Year in addition to earning 2012 Rookie of the Year honors.

Galton helped Hofstra earn a CAA title in 2012 and twice led the Pride to the NCAA Tournament, including this season when Hofstra won the CAA regular season title and advanced to the second round of the national tournament. In all four of her collegiate seasons, Galton was a NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic first-team pick. Entering 2015, she was ranked the 61st-best player in Division I by Top Drawer Soccer.

Galton, a native of Harrogate, England, saw fellow Harrogate native and St. John's standout also earn NSCAA honors by garnering a first-team pick. Galton was one of two CAA players to make either of the top-two All-America teams. William & Mary goalkeeper Caroline Casey was the only netminder in the country to earn the first-team selection.

Mulholland made a triumphant return to the field after injuries shortened her 2013 and 2014 seasons. The Levittown, New York product scored seven goals and added three assists to earn a first-team all-region selection for the first time in her career in her first healthy season since her freshman campaign in 2012.

Anderson, from Westbury, New York, was the only Hofstra player to log every minute this season. She contributed four goals and an assist and led a back line that posted five shutouts.

All four of the program's All-Americas have been coached by Simon Riddiough. Hofstra capped 2015 with a 13-6-2 overall record and the CAA regular season championship.
