Box Score Lowell, MA – Sophomore Claudia Marin Samper recorded two goals and one assist and the Pride defense held the River Hawks to just one goal in the opening minutes of the contest as Hofstra defeated UMass Lowell, 3-1 in a non-conference game at the Cushing Field Complex Friday afternoon.

Hofstra notched its seventh consecutive win of the season to improve to 7-1 on the season. It is Hofstra's longest field hockey winning streak since the 2003 season when the Pride won their first eight games of the year.

Marin Samper, the Colonial Athletic Association Field Hockey co-Player of the Week, scored two goals for the third time this season and two goals and one assist for the second time to equal her career high, set earlier this season against Sacred Heart. Freshman Simca Schoen, the CAA Rookie of the Week this week, recorded her third two-assist game of her season, all occurring in the last four outings. Junior midfielder Charlotte Loehr scored the Pride's first goal of the contest and has tallied one goal in four of her last five contests. Freshman goalie Carys Swan posted five saves for her seventh win of the season without a loss.

The River Hawks (3-5) got on the board first as senior Bianca Jones tallied her sixth goal of the season, picking up a rebound off Swan's pad for a 1-0 lead at the 4:21 mark. Four minutes later, Loehr tied the game at 1-1 for Hofstra with her fifth goal of the season off a penalty corner with sophomore Leigh Maxwell-Smith and Marin Samper assisting.

Hofstra took the lead at the 11:41 mark as freshman Simca Schoen fed Marin Samper with a breakaway pass for a 2-1 advantage. It was her seventh goal of the season. Marin Samper struck again in the 30th minute following a penalty corner, taking a pass from Schoen and roofing a shot off the crossbar and into the goal for a 3-1 Hofstra lead at halftime. Marin Samper almost tallied her third of the half less than a minute after her second goal but UMass Lowell junior defender Marzana Fiedtkou made a defensive save to keep the score at 3-1.

The combination of the Pride offense and defense kept the River Hawks off the board in the second half. Hofstra took 12 of their 22 shots in the contest in the second half while the defense, led by senior Holly Andrews and sophomore Carissa Witmer, held UMass Lowell to five second half shots and 11 for the game. Hofstra had five penalty corners to UMass Lowell's one in the contest.

Hofstra will be looking for their eighth consecutive win of the year this Sunday, September 21 when they take on a tough New Hampshire team in Durham, NH. Game time is noon.
