Hempstead, N.Y. – Former Hofstra forward Chris Griebsch has signed a professional contract to play for Karmiotissa Pano Polemidia in Cyprus.
Griebsch is playing for a squad that currently competes in the Cypriot Second Division, which is the second-highest league in the Cyprus Football Association pyramid. The team will be looking for a promotion to the 12-team Cypriot First Division, which is a member of UEFA and has its member clubs compete for the Cypriot Cup and Cypriot Super Cup.
Griebsch graduated Hofstra following his final collegiate season in 2013 and left the program as the school's all-time assists leader with 32. The Dessau-Rosslau, Germany native was the Colonial Athletic Association's Player of the Year in 2013 and was chosen to the All-South Atlantic Region second team. He was a finalist for the Soccer News Net College Boot Award, which recognizes the men's college national player of the year.
In this senior season, Griebsch was named an All-CAA honoree for the third time and became the first Hofstra player since 2006 to earn CAA men's soccer Player of the Year accolades. Griebsch led the league in assists for the third year in a row with eight and also contributed seven goals for 22 points.
Academically Griebsch was named to the NSCAA's Men's Scholar All-America Team. He was also the winner of the Colonial Athletic Association's Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete award.
An international business major with a 3.65 cumulative grade point average, Griebsch was named to the 2013 NSCAA University Division Men's Scholar All-East Region squad and was a two-time recipient of the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award.
Griebsch is one of a few Hofstra members from the 2013 senior class who have continued their soccer careers as either a player or a coach. Goalkeeper Roberto Pellegrini signed a contract with AC AC Sparta Prague. Defender Tyler Botte stayed local and was named an assistant coach at nearby Molloy College. Chris Grenzig was also named an assistant coach at Assumption College.
