Hofstra Defeats Northeastern For Third Consecutive Win

Hempstead, NY - Aleksei Armas and Evangelos Chrysostomou both scored their first goals of the season as Hofstra picked up a 2-1 victory over Northeastern in a CAA matchup at Captains Field Saturday night. The win was Hofstra's third in a row.

The Pride improved to 7-4-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the CAA with the win. The Huskies dropped to 2-6-2 overall and 1-4-0 in league play with their second consecutive loss.

Armas, who was celebrating his 21st birthday, opened the scoring 12:24 into the game with Daniel Burko and Laurie Goddard getting the assists. Burko played a ball in the box over to Goddard on the right post. The Pride's senior captain slid a pass to Armas at the top of the 18-yard box and he finished with a right-foot inside the left post.

Twenty minutes later, Chrysostomou added his name to the scoring column as he headed in a beautiful cross from Aaron Basenach to extend the lead to 2-0. Northeastern keeper Tobias Jahn got a glove on the shot, but it had enough momentum to carry over the goal line.

The Huskies ruined the Hofstra shutout early in the second half as Neil Devnani converted a pass from Bryce Flowers at 53:18.

Hofstra keeper Gino Cervoni made two saves, while Jahn stopped six shots for the Huskies. Both keepers had all their saves in the second half. Hofstra held a 12-11 edge in shots and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Hofstra returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Loyola Maryland at 7 p.m. in a non-conference contest.
