Late Rally Lifts Hofstra Over Stony Brook; Win Streak At Five

Stony Brook, NY - The Hofstra University men's soccer team extended their winning streak to five games in wild fashion Saturday night in a 3-2 CAA victory over Stony Brook at LaValle Stadium. The Pride scored two goals in the final four minutes to overcome a 2-1 deficit with Daniel Burko's game-winning goal coming with 36 seconds on the clock. It was Burko's second goal of the game. 

Hofstra improved to 9-4 overall and 5-1 in league play with the win. The Seawolves slipped to 4-4-4 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play with the loss. 

Stony Brook led 1-0 at half behind a Ryan Farr goal at 38:48. Burko knotted the game at 53:42 with Pablo Hempelmann-Perez and Owen Barnett earning assists. The final nine minutes of the game featured three goals as Stony Brook took a 2-1 lead on a goal from Jamie Orson at 81:33. Laurie Goddard scored the equalizer at 85:59, heading in a pass from Stefano Campisi. The play was initially ruled offside by the assistant referee, but following a video review was ruled a good goal.

The Pride kept the pressure up in the final minutes and drew a corner kick with 52 seconds to play. The kick was sent to the far post where it was headed by Thengill Orrason to Goddard at the near post. He headed it to Burko in front and the senior forward headed it home to complete his brace and send the Pride to victory. 

Hofstra will have a break before its next game, which will be Tuesday, October 21 at Fordham. 

Notes:
-Hofstra completed a series sweep of the Seawolves and moved to 21-12-7 all-time against their Long Island rivals.
-Goddard and Burko each scored for the first time in six games. 
-Goodard's goal was his team-best seventh of the season and his assist was his fourth, tied with Campisi for the team lead. 
-Gino Cervoni made one save. 
-Hofstra held a 24-6 advantage in shots. 
-The five-game winning streak is a season-long.
