9/14/2014 3:33:00 PM

Box Score Burlington, VT – Freshman goalie Carys Swan recorded a season-best eight saves and senior captain Jonel Boileau broke a 1-1 deadlock with her fifth goal of the year to lead the Hofstra Pride to a 2-1 victory over the Maine Black Bears in the second and final round of the University of Vermont Catamount Classic at Moulton Winder Field Sunday.

Hofstra, which recorded its sixth consecutive victory of the season, improves to 6-1 on the season. It equals the Pride's six-game winning streak in 2009. Hofstra improved to 5-1 in road games in 2014.

Sunday's victory, combined with Saturday's win over Vermont (4-0), gave the Pride the Catamount Classic team title. Harvard was also 2-0 in the Classic but Hofstra received the title based on the goal differential tie-breaker. Maine and Vermont, both 0-2 in the tournament, finished third and fourth, respectively.

Sophomore Claudia Marin Samper, who tied Sunday's game last in the first half with her third goal of the tournament and sixth of the season, was named the Catamount Classic Most Valuable Player. Boileau, who had a goal and an assist against Maine on Sunday, joined Marin Samper on the all-tournament team along with freshmen Simca Schoen and Swan. Schoen had two assists on Saturday against Vermont while Swan recorded 13 saves on the weekend including a season-high eight against the Black Bears on Sunday.

Maine opened the scoring on Sunday just 9:44 into the contest as Danielle Aviani picked up a rebound from in front and deposited it in the back of the goal for a 1-0 advantage. But Marin Samper tied the contest at the 29:01 mark off a pass across the circle from Boileau.

The two international standouts hooked up again 13 minutes into the second half with Marin Samper passing in front to Boileau, who one-timed it past Maine goalie Emily Corbett (4 saves). It is Boileau's second game-winning goal of the year following her overtime game-winner against Fairfield on September 10.

Swan made five of her eight saves in the second half to record her sixth win of the season. Maine held a 13-12 shot advantage and an 8-2 penalty corner advantage over the Pride.

Hofstra returns to action next Friday, September 19 at the University of Massachusetts Lowell at 3 p.m.
