Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University graduate-student
Cody Ruggirello has been named the GoHofstra.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending November 30.
Ruggirello, a native of Walden, New York, recorded a 2-1 record at the Journeymen/Asics Northeast Duals at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York last Saturday. The 15th-ranked 149-pounder posted both wins by fall, pinning North Carolina State's Brian Hamann at the 1:42 mark and Sacred Heart's Brendan Goldup at the 1:38 mark. The two pins give him a team-high six falls this season.
Ruggirello's only loss in the trio of matches at the Northeast Duals came against Missouri's sixth-ranked senior Drake Houdashelt (9-0), 6-2.
Ruggirello, a 2014 NCAA Championship qualifier after placing fourth in the EIWA Championships, is now 9-1 on the season with six falls and one major decision.
Ruggirello and the Pride return to action this weekend when they compete in the Cliff Keen-Las Vegas Invitational at the Las Vegas Convention Center on Friday and Saturday, December 5-6.
