Hempstead, NY – Hofstra freshman
Daniel Barlev captured the Division I meet individual title to lead the Pride to the team championship at the 2014 St. John's University/Hofstra University Fall Festival in Oakdale, NY Sunday.
Barlev (Holmdel, NJ) led all Division I runners and was second overall in the 10-school meet with a 5K time of 15:43 to lead the field. It was the first individual title for a Hofstra runner since
Daniel Rono captured the Towson Invitational in 2013.
The Pride newcomers stood tall on Sunday as
Alan Hetherington (Oshawa, ON, Canada) placed 11th overall in 16:18 and
Rodney Chirchir (Eldoret, Kenya) was 14th in 16:28. Hofstra sophomore
Jack Finlayson (Orillia, ON, Canada) placed 19th in 16:33 while freshman
Austin Jenkins (Trenton, NJ) was 26th in 16:43. Sophomore
Michael Simon (Englishtown, NJ) was 53rd in 17:52
As a team, Hofstra placed all five of their scoring runners in the top 13 to capture the Division I race with 36 points. Seton Hall was second with 38 points while New Jersey Institute of Technology was third with 53 points.
The Pride return to action next Saturday, September 13 at the LIU Post Invitational in Brookville, NY. Race time is 11:15 a.m.
