MGOLF: Hofstra Ties For Seventh At Hartford

David Mecca placed 10th to lead the Pride at Hartford

South Kent, CT - Hofstra shot the lowest final round of the day, a two-over 290, and moved into a tie for seventh place at the Hartford Hawk Invitational at Bull's Bridge Golf Club. The Pride's final round score was two strokes better than both Central Florida and Saint Joseph's (PA).

The Pride finished with a three-round score of 905 (+41) and tied for seventh place in the 19-team field with Rhode Island and Bryant.

Individually, David Mecca led the Pride with a 10th place finish. The senior captain shot a final round 70 (-2) and totaled a three-round 222 (+6). Classmate Brandon Shin tied for 11th at 223 (+7) after carding a 71 (-1) Monday. Sophomore David Won also shot 71 (-1) Monday and tied for 37th overall at 228 (+12). Sophomore Sean Cavanaugh had an 81 (+9) in his final round and tied for 61st overall at 235 (+19). Senior Jonathan Farber shot his best round of the tournament with a 78 (+6) and tied for 87th place in the 105-player field with a 242 (+26).

Mecca climbed 23 spots during the final round, while Shin and Won moved up 22 places in the standings on Monday.

Hartford claimed the team title by two strokes over Central Florida. The Hawks finished with an 874 (+10) compared to 876 (+12) for the Knights.

Evan Russell of Hartford was the individual medalist with a 210 (-6). Ryan Snouffer of Seton Hall was the runner-up at 212 (-4).

Hofstra is back in action Thursday and Friday at the Tuxedo Open, hosted by Columbia, at the Tuxedo Club in Tuxedo, New York.
