CAA Weekly Notes

Hempstead, NY – Hofstra sophomore Claudia Marin Samper has been selected the Colonial Athletic Association Field Hockey Player of the Week and freshman Simca Schoen was named the CAA Rookie of the Week for their play in three Pride victories last week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Marin Samper, a native of Terrassa, Spain, tallied three goals and added one assist in the Pride's three wins last week. She recorded the final two goals in the Pride's 4-0 win over host Vermont on Saturday in the Catamount Classic first round. On Sunday, Marin Samper scored Hofstra's first goal of the game in the first half against Maine that tied the contest at 1-1. She then assisted on Jonel Boileau's second half goal that gave the Pride a 2-1 win over the Black Bears.

For her efforts, she was named the Catamount Classic Most Valuable Player and selected to the All-Catamount Classic team. Marin Samper now has six goals and three assists for 15 points in seven games this season.

Schoen, a native of Hamburg, Germany, continued her stellar playmaking ways this season by adding four assists in Hofstra's three victories last week. Last Wednesday, she assisted on goals by junior Charlotte Loehr and the game-winner by Boileau in Hofstra's 2-1 overtime victory over Fairfield. On Saturday, Schoen added two more assists, on goals by Boileau and Marin Samper, in the Pride's 4-0 win over Vermont in the Catamount Classic.

Schoen now has eight points on one goal and a team-high six assists this season. Like Marin Samper, Schoen was named to the All-Catamount Classic team.

Hofstra returns to action this Friday, September 19 when they travel to UMass-Lowell for a 3 p.m. contest.
