MSOC: Professional Update

Hempstead, N.Y. – Former Hofstra forward Chris Griebsch and goalkeeper Roberto Pellegrini have started their professional soccer career overseas.

Griebsch has tallied two assists for Karmiotissa Pano Polemidia in Cyprus, with the team starting 4-0 in the Cypriot Second Division, which is the second-highest league in the Cyprus Football Association pyramid.

Pellegrini is currently training with the reserve squad of AC Sparta Prague, which is the defending champion of the Czech First League (the country's top level of soccer and part of the UEFA confederation). AC Sparta Prague has 12 league titles, which is the most out of any franchise in a league that currently has 16 clubs participating in the 2014-15 season.

Two weeks ago, Pellegrini was called up to the first time for a game and served as the third-string goalkeeper. Pellegrini played for Hofstra from 2010-13, going 18-18-5 with 10 shutouts.

Griebsch graduated Hofstra following his final collegiate season in 2013 and left the program as the school's all-time assists leader with 32. The Dessau-Rosslau, Germany native was the Colonial Athletic Association's Player of the Year in 2013 and was chosen to the All-South Atlantic Region second team. He was a finalist for the Soccer News Net College Boot Award, which recognized the men's college national player of the year.

In this senior season, Griebsch was named an All-CAA honoree for the third time and became the first Hofstra player since 2006 to earn CAA men's soccer Player of the Year accolades. Griebsch led the league in assists for the third year in a row with eight and also contributed seven goals for 22 points.
