Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Volleyball team will head to the UConn Tournament this weekend where they will hope to continue their solid start to the 2014 campaign.

Hofstra will play three matches during the tournament, facing Bryant on Friday before taking on Columbia and the host Huskies on Saturday. Columbia is coached by former Hofstra Volleyball standout Brie Katz. The Bryant match is at 5 p.m. on Friday, while the Columbia match is at 10 a.m. Saturday and then the Connecticut contest is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Off to the second-best start in program history at 9-2, Hofstra will look to continue its solid play this season as they head to their final in-season tournament of the 2014 season. Following this weekend, Hofstra will open conference play at Elon on September 26, followed by a visit to UNCW on September 26. Hofstra's record through 11 matches this season is tied with the 2012, 2002 and 1999 squads for the second-best in school history, only eclipsed by the 10-1 start by the 1988 team.

Hofstra went 2-1 last week, defeating Fordham and Siena, while falling to Sacred Heart at the Hofstra Invitational.

Senior middle blocker Nuria Lopes da Silva was named to the all-tournament team for the Pride after totaling 26 kills, a .367 attack percentage, 16 blocks and 11 digs. It was her second honor of the young season as she was named the Colonial Athletic Association's (CAA) Defensive Player of the Week on September 8.

The match against Sacred Heart saw senior outside hitter Kelsie Wills reach the 1,000 digs mark for her outstanding career. With 1,587 career kills and 1,012 career digs, she is only the sixth player in program history to have at least 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in their careers. In addition, she ranks second all-time in kills at Hofstra and is just 67 shy of the top spot in program history.

Hofstra is 0-1 all-time against Bryant, 2-1 against Columbia and 6-1 versus Connecticut. The Bulldogs head into the week with a 3-10 record, while the Lions are 3-3 and the Huskies have a 5-3 record.
