Box Score Philadelphia, PA – Freshman
Simca Schoen broke a 1-1 tie early in the second half and senior
Jonel Boileau tallied a goal and an assist to top the 100-point plateau and lead the Hofstra Pride to a 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory over the Drexel Dragons at Buckley Field Friday night.
Hofstra, which won their second consecutive game, improves to 9-5 overall and 1-1 in the CAA. Drexel falls to 7-5 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Schoen, a defender from Hamburg, Germany, scored her third goal of the season, off a pass from Boileau, just 5:16 into the second period to snap a 1-1 tie and the Pride stood tall the rest of the way to end a two-game losing slide to the Dragons. Freshman goalie
Carys Swan, who made five saves in the first half, needed to make only one save in the second 35 minutes as the Hofstra defense protected their defensive circle.
Boileau opened the scoring in the contest with her 10th goal of the season, at the 13:42 mark of the game, off a pass from sophomore
Stella Schoen. It was Boileau's 42nd goal of her career and the 99th and 100th points of her Pride career making her only the sixth player in school history to reach the plateau.
But the Dragons tied the game less than three minutes later when senior Christina Conrad tallied her fifth goal of the year off a pass from classmate Rachel Sumfest. Despite solid offensive pressure by both teams, the score remained tied at halftime. Drexel outshot Hofstra, 8-6 in the first half with Swan making five saves for the Pride and senior Jantien Gunter making four for the Dragons.
Simca Schoen's goal, her second game-winning goal of the season for the Pride, took the wind out of the Drexel sails although the Dragons did have three shots and three penalty corners in the second half after the goal. Hofstra had three second half shots and nine for the game.
Hofstra returns to action on Sunday, October 19 when they host the Broncs of Rider University at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium. Game time is 1 p.m.
