Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University Head Men's Basketball Coach Joe Mihalich announced today that Chris Jenkins, a native of Hillside, NJ, has signed with the University.
“We are thrilled to welcome Chris Jenkins to the Hofstra Basketball family,” stated Mihalich. “Chris is a prolific three-point shooter who will really stretch the defense when he is on the court. He also played on a high-level high school team that should help ease the transition to the college game for him. As our recruiting efforts continue, we look forward to adding more talented student-athletes to our program.”
Jenkins currently attends the Gill St. Bernard's School in Gladstone, NJ. The sharp-shooting 6-4 guard, who is the 29th ranked player in New Jersey according to ESPN, averaged 17 points per game for Morristown-Beard as a junior before heading to Gill St. Bernard's for his senior year.
Jenkins was one of the state's top three-point shooters last season as he drained 59 for an average of 3.3 per game, including sinking seven in the NJSIAA/ShopRite South Jersey, Non-Public B semifinal against the Patrick School.
Gill St. Bernard's finished the 2012-13 year with a record of 19-8 and was ranked No. 17 in the state of New Jersey by The Star Ledger and second in Somerset County. Jenkins earned third team All-Somerset County honors from The Star Ledger for his strong season.
Jenkins averaged 12.9 points and 4.1 rebounds in 2012-13, while scoring a season-high 29 points (nine three-pointers) against St. Joseph in the NJSIAA Tournament on February 27. He averaged 21 points per game over his final three games, including 23 on March 4 against the Patrick School.
