Philadelphia, Pa. – Sophomore Leah Galton scored the equalizer in the second half, but Drexel's Lauren Stollar netted the go-ahead goal in the 64th minute as Hofstra fell, 2-1, to the Dragons in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup on Sunday afternoon at Vidas Field.
Senior goalkeeper Emily Morphitis made five saves, but Drexel held the Pride without a corner kick attempt and counterpart Eve Badana made six saves as Hofstra fell to 8-5-1 and 2-2-1 in CAA play. Dexel Megan Hammaker added a goal as the Dragons improved to 5-9-1 and 1-4.
Hammaker opened the scoring in the 55th minute when Christine Stevenson sent a corner deep into the box. After the ball rattled in the box, Hammaker scored off a third attempt to give the Dragons the early lead.
Galton, the Preseason Player of the Year, scored the tying goal in the 63rd minute. Senior defenders Brittany Farriella and Ruby Staplehurst picked up the assists. Galton notched her sixth goal and her first scoring strike in five games.
Farriella notched her first point of the season with the assist. Staplehurst registered her second assist this season and her first point since Sept. 25, spanning six games.
But the lead was short-lived as Drexel scored just 57 seconds later. Stollar scored off a rebound after Civanni Moss sent the initial shot that was knocked out into the slot and Stollar bounced on the second chance.
Less than three minutes after the goal, Fariella got off a shot that Badana saved. Sophomore Jeannine Molleda put another shot on target that Badana saved in the 72nd minute. Galton had Hofstra's two final scoring chances to tie it late, though the Drexel netminder stopped both her 83rd and 86th-minute shots.
Hofstra will next be in action Sunday, Oct. 20 when the Pride plays Towson on the road. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
