Late Goal Gives Hofstra Win At Stony Brook, Clinches CAA Championship Berth

Stony Brook, NY - Olivia Pearse's goal with just under 12 minutes to play snapped a 2-2 tie and gave Hofstra a 3-2 CAA victory at Stony Brook Sunday afternoon. The win secured the Pride's spot in this week's CAA Championship. Hofstra will be the No. 3 seed in the North Division and will have a rematch with the second-seeded Seawolves Thursday night at LaValle Stadium.

Hofstra finished the regular season with a 6-4-7 record overall and a 3-3-3 mark in the CAA. Stony Brook is 10-6-1 overall and 5-4-0 in league play.

The Pride scored two first half goals to take what seemed to be a comfortable lead. Millie Davies opened the scoring with her first goal of the season off a 25-yard free kick that she buried into the upper left corner at 19:51. Mathilde Braithwaite doubled the lead at 33:46, heading in a long service from Gabriella Marte.

The Seawolves broke through at 64:01 as Hannah Maracina scored her fifth of the season from Hedvig Helling and Reilly Rich. Helling would knot the score 8:22 later with Rich and Eva Spreewell notching assists.

That set the stage for Pearse to play hero and the graduate student did just that as she made a run down the right side, curled to the inside and fired a long shot past Stony Brook keeper Jona Hennings with 11:38 remaining. Davies and Aimee Hodgson were credited with assists on the play.

The Pride defense limited the Seawolves to one shot the rest of the way with keeper Lilly Bailey stopping the attempt. Bailey finished with five saves.
