Ambler, PA - Brandon Shin shot his second consecutive round
of 74 (+3) and claimed the individual medalist honor at the LaSalle
Invitational at the Tallamore Country Club Monday afternoon. As a team Hofstra
placed third at the 12-team event.
Shin's 74 was the lowest round of the day as most players
saw a rise in score due to blustery conditions at the course that saw winds
reach up to 40 miles per hour. His two-round total of 148 gave him a six stroke
win over Fordham's Devon O'Rourke and Iona's Dylan Newman and Andrew Graham.
The victory was the first for Shin, a freshman from Granada Hills, CA, who was
playing in just his fourth tournament of the year. His previous top finish was a tie for 19th at last week's George Washington
Invitational.
Jonathan Farber was Hofstra's next best finisher, tying for
16th at 162 (+20) after a final round 85 (+14). Jake Winn tied for 20th after carding
an 82 (+11) Monday to finish with a 163 (+21). Paul Bruckner tied for 25th at
165 (+23) after a final round 86 (+15). David Mecca shot a 93 Monday (+22) to
finish tied for 56th at 182 (+40).
Shin was at par or birdie on 27 of his 36 holes in the
tournament. He tallied four birdies and 23 pars over his two rounds and led the
field in both par four and par five scoring at 4.23 and 4.67, respectively.
Fordham claimed the team championship with a score of 621
(+53). Iona was second at 631 (+63), while the Pride was third with a 638
(+70).
The tournament win was the first for a Hofstra player since
Sean Davy won the Tom Pecora Invitational on April 13, 2009 at the Cherry
Valley Club in Garden City, NY.
