Men's Basketball Update

11/30/2012 10:18:00 PM

The Following Message Was Sent Today To The Hofstra University Community

By now many of you have seen the media accounts of the arrest of four Hofstra Men's basketball student-athletes for burglaries that occurred on campus.  Our Department of Public Safety has worked in close cooperation with the Nassau County Police Department to investigate these burglaries.  The University has suspended all of these students from the University, including classes and the athletic program, and banned them from campus pending the final disposition of the charges.

Our first priority is to ensure that our campus is safe and secure, and that our entire community understands that criminal activities of any type will not be tolerated.  We will continue to promote the safety, health and welfare of our students in every way possible.  We are saddened and distressed by these events.

Hofstra University Correction To Initial Media Reports (Released 11/30/12 at 4:45 p.m.)

In today's Nassau County Police press conference, it was implied that Head Men's Basketball Coach Mo Cassara was a possible victim of the four accused young men.

Coach Cassara reported to Hofstra Public Safety on May 11 that personal items were missing.

None of the four individuals arrested today were on campus, nor were they members of the Hofstra community at that time.
