Towson, MD – Sophomore outside Kelsie Wills had match-highs of 16 kills and 20 digs, for her team-leading 14th double-double of the season, to lead the Hofstra Volleyball team to a three-set sweep of William & Mary in the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship on Friday evening at the Towson Center Arena.
Set scores were 25-23, 25-18 and 25-23 in favor of Hofstra, which earned its first postseason victory since 2008.
Hofstra improves to 19-13 and advances to the semifinals where it will face top-seeded Towson at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening. William & Mary ends its season with a record of 13-14.
Senior libero Kylee Maneja added 17 digs for Hofstra to lead a strong defensive effort that held the Tribe to just a .009 attack percentage. In fact, William & Mary didn't hit above .000 in either the first or second set, finally reaching positive hitting numbers in the third and final set when they hit at a .097 clip.
The first and third sets were quite competitive as Hofstra narrowly escaped with 25-23 victories in both stanzas. The second set was where the Pride left no doubt as they cruised to a 25-18 victory.
Offensively the Pride had its strongest showing in the second set as they had a .233 attack percentage.
Senior setter Catalina Charry narrowly missed a double-double for Hofstra as she had 27 assists and nine digs.
Julia Swalchick led William & Mary with eight kills, while Molly Krull chipped in with 16 assists and eight digs.
