Hempstead, NY -
Izadora Stedile was tremendous with 24 kills and 14 digs to lead the Hofstra volleyball team to its seventh consecutive win, a four-set victory over Temple, on Sunday afternoon in the Pride's home opener at the David S. Mack Physical Education Building.
Before a raucous home crowd, Hofstra moved to 7-0 with the win. Temple moved to 6-4 with the loss. The 7-0 start to the season is the program's best since the 2012 squad began the year with eight straight victories.
Set scores were 26-28, 25-15, 27-25, and 25-20. It marked the second time this season Hofstra dropped the first set but rallied to win the match in four.
Beatriz Braga had 13 kills, 12 digs, and four blocks for the Pride in the match.
Julia Amorim and
Clara Bal were outstanding defensively as they had 14 and eight blocks, respectively.
Emilly Nunes chipped in with seven kills and six blocks, while
Nil Kayaalp posted 17 digs in a winning effort.
The 14 blocks by Amorim are the most for a Hofstra player during the Pride's CAA era (since 2002). It is the most by a player in the CAA since Northeastern's Nyla Shepard had 15 against Stony Brook on September 17, 2023.
Olivia Hummel tallied 14 kills and 21 digs for Temple, which also got 27 assists and 14 digs from Dani Gonzalez-Murati.
Hofstra is back in action on Friday when it hosts UNCW in its CAA opener at 5 p.m.
