Hempstead, NY – Senior Catalina Charry had a stellar match as she totaled 30 assists, a career-high 19 digs, nine kills and two blocks to lead the Hofstra Volleyball team to a four-set victory over James Madison on Friday evening at the Hofstra Fitness Center.
Hofstra won by scores of 25-21, 25-17, 25-27, 25-15.
Hofstra improves to 14-9 overall and 2-2 in conference action, while handing the Dukes their first conference loss of the season. JMU is now 9-8 and 2-1 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play.
The Pride had a total of three players in double figures in kills as sophomore Kelsie Wills had 18, junior Nikki Kinnier added 14 and freshman Emily Burke chipped in with 12. Kinnier made the most of her attack attempts as she hit at a .333 clip, and also added a season-high five digs.
Daniell Erb led JMU with 13 kills and added 11 digs, while Natalie Abel had 11 kills and 15 digs.
Hofstra had a strong start to the match offensively as the Pride hit at a .265 clip in the first set before posting a match-high .355 attack percentage in the second stanza as they had 14 kills on 31 attempts with just three errors. The Pride strong hitting led them to a 2-0 lead in the contest.
The third set would be the tightest of the contest as strong defense led the way with the stanza featuring seven tie scores and five lead changes before JMU slipped past the Pride, 27-25.
Hofstra would quickly put an end to any thoughts of a James Madison comeback as the Pride easily defeated the visitors in the fourth set, 25-15.
Hofstra returns to action on Sunday when it hosts George Mason at 1 p.m. at the Hofstra Fitness Center.
