Beatriz Braga was incredible with 19 kills, 19 digs, three blocks, and a pair of assists to lead the Hofstra volleyball team to its fifth straight win to open the season, a four-set victory over Fordham on Friday afternoon at Rose Hill Gymnasium.
The Pride moved to 5-0 on the season with the win, while Fordham dropped to 5-3. Set scores were 25-21, 16-25, 25-22, and 25-18.
Hofstra is 5-0 for the first time since the 2023 team began the year 6-0. In addition, it is the program's fifth 5-0 start in the CAA era (since 2002).
The Pride dominated most of the categories in the match as they tallied 69 kills to Fordham's 32 and had 87 digs to the Rams' 63.
Izadora Stedile had 16 kills and 19 digs to help lead the way with Braga, while
Clara Bal added 12 kills and
Emilly Nunes chipped in with 10.
Nina Jioshvili-Ravva tallied 38 assists and 13 digs.
Erynn Sweeney had 10 kills for Fordham, which also got 27 assists and nine digs from Whitney Woodrow.
Hofstra will continue play at the Rose Hill Classic on Saturday when it takes on FDU at 1 p.m.
NOTES
- Hofstra improved to 8-4 all-time against Fordham. It was the first meeting between the teams since a 3-1 Pride win in 2019.
- The win improved Hofstra's record all-time against teams from the state of New York to 130-41.
- The double-double was the third of the season for Jioshvili-Ravva, second of the year for Stedile, and first this season for Braga.
