Hempstead, NY - Senior Codi Nyland scored the Pride's only goal but Dragon junior Lindsay McArdle scored twice to lead 23rd-ranked Drexel to a 3-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Hofstra at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The Dragon victory, clinched the number one seed and host duties for the 2012 CAA Championship Tournament that begins on Thursday, November 1 in Philadelphia. Drexel, which will get a first round bye, improved to 13-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play. The Pride, who captured the sixth seed with Friday's win over Towson, fell to 7-11 overall and 1-6 in the CAA. Hofstra will play the third seed, James Madison, Thursday at a time to be determined on Monday.

Nyland, a senior midfielder from Washington, NJ, scored her second goal of the season, on Senior Day at Hofstra, just 4:32 into the second half. Nyland, camped out on the left side of the goal, tipped in a bullet by senior defender Melissa McCarthy (Havertown, PA) from the right side of the circle.

But that goal only cut the Pride deficit to 2-1 as McArdle gave the Dragons a 1-0 lead at the 26:15 mark of the first half, picking up her own rebound off a save by Hofstra junior goalie Kaitlyn De Turo (South Setauket, NY) and flipping it over the sprawled goalie for a 1-0 lead. It was her 10th goal of the season.

McArdle made it 2-0 just two minutes into the second half as she tipped in a pass in the center of the circle, from junior Elise DiDonato on the right side.

After the Pride cut the deficit in half with Nyland's goal, the Dragons notched an insurance goal following a penalty corner. Drexel senior Amanda Fleischut took a short drop down pass in the middle of the circle, from sophomore Rebecca Werner, and beat De Turo (3 saves) for her 10th goal of the season and a 3-1 advantage.

The Pride had some opportunities in the second half, outshooting Drexel, 9-5 in the period but Dragon sophomore goalie Jantien Gunter made three of her four stops in the final 35 minutes to record her 13th win of the season.

Hofstra outshot Drexel, 11-9 in the contest and had four penalty corners to the Dragons' three.
