Hempstead, NY – Senior Nikki Kinnier had an outstanding match on her “Senior Night” as the Elkton, Maryland native posted a match-high 21 kills to lead the Hofstra Volleyball team to a three-set sweep of Georgia State on Friday evening at the Mack Physical Education Center.
The 21 kills by Kinnier tied a season-high.
Set scores were 25-18, 25-22 and 27-25 in favor of Hofstra.
Kinnier also added four blocks and three digs for Hofstra, which improved to 15-13 and 3-6 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play with the win. The victory also ended a four-match losing skid for the Pride. Georgia State fell to 4-17 and 2-7 with the loss.
Hofstra got off to a great start in the contest as they hit at a .267 clip in the first stanza, while holding the Panthers to a negative .094 hitting percentage.
After winning 25-18 in the first set, the second and third sets would be much closer as Hofstra earned a hard-fought 25-22 win in the second set before closing the match with a thrilling 27-25 victory in the third stanza. The Pride fought off multiple set points in the final set before finishing off the Panthers.
Dede Bohannon led Georgia State with 11 kills, while Jamiee Freeman added six kills and 10 digs.
Hofstra returns to action next Saturday when it travels to UNC Wilmington for a 1 p.m. contest.
