Norfolk, VA - Senior Emma Batten and sophomore Kati Nearhouse each tallied two goals to lead the top-ranked Lady Monarchs of Old Dominion to a 5-0 CAA victory over the Hofstra Pride at the Powhatan Sports Complex Friday night. ODU remains undefeated on the season at 9-0 and 1-0 in the CAA. Hofstra, which had its four-game winning streak snapped, falls to 7-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The Lady Monarchs scored twice in the first half and three times in the second half and dominated the shots on goal in the contest, 19-3. Hofstra senior goalie Amanda Heyde made seven saves in the contest including a stop of a first half penalty stroke.

Heyde stopped the ODU penalty stroke attempt by junior Julie Hodge at the 14:30 mark of the first half. But Batten opened the scoring 10 minutes later, taking a pass from senior Kathryn Kirk behind Heyde for her 11th goal of the year. The Lady Monarchs made it 2-0 with just 12 seconds remaining in the half as Nearhouse and junior Maartje van Rijswijk worked a perfect give-and-go with Nearhouse notching her third goal of the year.

Almost 12 minutes into the second half, Nearhouse notched her second of the game and fourth of the year on a blast from 10 yards out for a 3-0 advantage. Six minutes later, van Rijswijk found Batten on the post for her 12th goal of the year. Kirk closed out the scoring for ODU with 13:21 to play, off a pass from freshman Kelsey Smither, for the final margin.

Hofstra returns to action on Sunday, September 25 when they head north to Williamsburg, Virginia to face the Tribe of William and Mary in a CAA contest. Game time at Busch Field is noon.
