9/2/2011 11:15:00 PM

Hamilton, NY - Senior Genna Kovar recorded two goals and three assists to lead the Hofstra Pride to an 8-1 non-conference victory over the Colgate Raiders at Tyler's Field Friday afternoon. The Pride won their second consecutive game to even their record at 2-2 while Colgate falls to 1-1.

In addition to Kovar's career-high seven points, Hofstra received two goals from senior Arielle Williams, a goal and an assist from junior Krizia Layne, and solo goals by senior Amy-Lee Levey, junior Micaela Gallagher and freshman Jonel Boileau. Senior Amanda Heyde made two saves in 53:01 of action before being replaced by sophomore Kaitlyn De Turo.

Gallagher opened the scoring with her first goal of the year at the 6:13 mark, with Kovar assisting off a penalty corner. The Raiders tied the game nine minutes later as junior Lauren Dittman scored on a penalty corner with junior Anna Reddicliffe and freshman Adriana Libutti assisting.

It was all Hofstra after that. Layne scored her fourth of the season and the game-winner at the 18:01 mark on a cross from Kovar. Just 14 seconds before halftime, Kovar notched her second goal of the season, dribbling through the Colgate defense to give the Pride a 3-1 lead at halftime. Hofstra outshot the Raiders, 9-3 in the first half.

Kovar notched her second of the game and third of the season just 1:08 into the second half, posting her second unassisted goal to boost the lead to 4-1. Levey then recorded her second goal of the year, taking a pass from Kovar off the penalty corner for a 5-1 advantage at the 45:46 mark. Williams, the Pride's leading scorer last season, tallied her first goal of the year, from Layne, off a penalty corner with 16:59 to play. Seven minutes later, Boileau posted the second goal of her career, scoring on a breakaway. Williams closed out the scoring, with 2:35 to play, off a pass from junior Codi Nyland on a penalty corner.

The Pride outshot the Raiders, 23-8 and had 10 penalty corners to Colgate's eight. The eight Hofstra goals are the most since an 8-4 victory over Missouri State in 2008. The Pride record for goals in a game is 11, set against Siena in 1996.

The Pride return to action on Saturday (Sept. 3) when they face the University of Vermont at Colgate's Tyler's Field. Game time is 2 p.m.
