VB: Hofstra Sweeps Air Force

Davis, CA - Five different players had at least seven kills, led by eight apiece from freshman outside hitter Kelsie Wills and sophomore outside hitter Nikki Kinnier, as the Hofstra Volleyball team won its second match of the day by sweeping Air Force on Saturday evening at the Aggie Invitational. 

Hofstra moves its record to 9-6 with the win, while Air Force slips to 3-10 with the loss.

The Pride won by scores of 25-20, 25-13 and 25-19 as they finished 2-1 at the Aggie Invitational.

Hofstra got better as the match progressed, using a .159 hitting percentage to win a close first set.

The offense would turn it up a notch in the next two sets, though, as Hofstra hit at a .346 clip in the second stanza before finishing the match in style with a .478 attack percentage in the third and final set.  The Pride had 14 kills on 23 attempts with just three errors in the final stanza.

Three players had seven kills for Hofstra as senior right side Taylor Moore and senior middle blocker Erika Charry had identical nights with seven kills, two blocks and a .353 hitting percentage.  Erika Charry also added four services aces in the match.

Senior middle blocker Anissa Whitney was the third player with seven kills and she also led the team with four blocks.

Junior setter Catalina Charry quarterbacked the Pride offense to the tune of 30 assists, nine digs and three blocks. 

Ayesha Hein led Air Force with 10 kills and three blocks.

Hofstra returns to action on Thursday when it travels to NJIT for a 7 p.m. match.
