9/16/2011 10:05:00 PM

Hempstead, NY - Junior Krizia Layne tallied a career-best four goals and one assist and senior Genna Kovar added three goals to lead the Hofstra Pride to a 10-0 non-conference victory over the Siena Saints at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium Friday afternoon. Hofstra, which won its third consecutive game, improves to 6-4 on the season. Siena falls to 0-6.

In addition to Layne and Kovar, Hofstra received goals from senior Darrah Rachman, sophomore Katelyn Horan and freshman Jonel Boileau. The Pride outshot the Saints, 42-4 as sophomore Kaitlyn De Turo needed to make just two second half saves in relief of senior starter Amanda Heyde. Siena sophomore goalie Beth Meyers recorded a season-high 20 saves in the Saints' goal.

The Pride scored four times in the first half and six more in the second half to post their sixth win in the last eight games. Layne opened the scoring just 2:49 into the contest off a rebound in front for her ninth of the season. Kovar made it 2-0 almost five minutes later on a spinner in the circle for her eighth tally of the season. Layne then added the next two goals, first with 19:43 to play in the half on a long pass that went through the Siena defense, and then sealing the hat-trick five minutes later off a rebound following a breakaway. The Pride outshot the Saints, 22-1 at halftime with Meyers making 12 of her saves in the first period.

Kovar notched her second of the game and ninth of the season 8:40 into the second half, tipping in a cross from senior Arielle Williams.  Four minutes later, Kovar completed her hat-trick by going around the defense on the end line and beating Meyers for a 6-0 advantage. The Hofstra newcomers then got involved in the scoring with 18:31 to play in the game as freshman Jonel Boileau tipped in a pass from junior Melissa McCarthy, a transfer from Millersville University, to boost the lead to 7-0. It was Boileau's fourth goal of the year and McCarthy's first Hofstra point.

Layne picked up her fourth goal of the day and 12th of the year, from junior Meg Leusch, two minutes later. It was Leusch's first career point. Sophomore Katelyn Horan recorded the first goal of her career with 12:34 to play off a pass to the post from Layne for a 9-0 lead before Rachman notched her fifth goal of the year, from senior Katelyn Lewis - who also recorded her first career point - to close out the scoring.

The Pride return to action on Sunday, September 18 when they host the 16th-ranked Great Danes of Albany at 2 p.m.
