Providence, RI – The Hofstra field hockey team suffered a 3-1 defeat on the road to Providence Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. Hofstra is now 5-4 overall and Providence moves to 6-3.
After a scoreless first half, the Friars took the lead on a penalty corner goal by Bo Martina, and the hosts made it 2-0 several minutes later on a goal from Lily Pracaccianti. Providence scored a third goal in the fourth quarter from Piper Cline to make it a 3-0 score. With time winding down in the fourth,
Tess Satterfield received a pass from
Teresa Karoff and slotted home her second goal of the season to put the Pride on the board with 43 seconds left in regulation.
Luci Hollister got the start between the posts and tallied saves in the defeat. For Providence, Ava Porter played 56 minutes and made three saves to earn the win, and Zoe Onken saw the field for the final four minutes.
Hofstra resumes CAA play on Friday, October 3, with a 3 p.m. contest against Monmouth.
NOTES:
-The all-time series is now tied 3-3. This was the first meeting between Hofstra and Providence since 2002.
-Providence finished with a 15-11 advantage in shot and a 9-7 penalty corner advantage.
