Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University senior defender Katie Hertsch was named the GoHofstra.com Student-Athlete of the Week after leading the Pride Women's Lacrosse team to a 13-9 victory over Denver on Friday afternoon.
Hertsch had one of the most dominating games defensively in recent memory for Hofstra in its 13-9 win over Denver on Friday. Hertsch was all over the field during the contest and had game-highs of seven ground balls and four caused turnovers in the victory. Both totals were individual season-highs for a member of the Pride this season and the seven ground balls established a new career-high for Hertsch. In addition, Hertsch was the main reason why Hofstra was able to rally from a one-goal halftime deficit and hold the Pioneers to just two goals in the final thirty minutes. Her strong play allowed Hofstra to also go 7-8 on clears in the second stanza.
For the season, Hertsch leads Hofstra in ground balls with 10 and caused turnovers with eight. She also has three draw controls.
No. 20 Hofstra (2-1) returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Albany for a 12 p.m. contest.
