Hempstead, N.Y. - Senior guard Charles Jenkins (Queens. N.Y.) has continued his All-America caliber season by guiding Hofstra into a tie for second in the final Colonial Athletic Association standings.

Jenkins is currently fourth in the nation in scoring (23.2 ppg) while shooting 52.8 percent from the floor as a shooting guard. Nobody else in the top 15 in scoring is shooting over 50 percent, while no guard in the top 100 in scoring (17.0 ppg or higher) is shooting a better percentage from the floor.

As a result of his efforts this season, Jenkins has seen his name pop up in various All-America discussions around the country. Andy Katz of ESPN.com called him "one of the hidden gems in the country" and a possible second-team All-American, while Gary Parrish of CBS Sports.com wrote that "Jenkins is on his way to being a consensus All-American". The staff of ESPN College Gameday voted him the Mid-Major Player of the Year for the first semester in their telecast on Jan. 8.

Jenkins has 2,463 points in his career, the highest total for any active player (56 more than second-place Andrew Goudelock of the College of Charleston) and a new Hofstra school record. He is second in Colonial Athletic Association history, while he also projects to becoming the 61st player in NCAA history to score 2,500 career points if Hofstra plays in more than one postseason game. He has scored at least 18 points in all but two games this season (when he was 5-10 for 15 points against Nebraska, and 4-7 for 13 points against Holy Cross).

Hofstra will open play at the CAA Tournament on Saturday night at 8:30, when it faces the winner of Friday's opening round game between James Madison and William & Mary.
