Hempstead, NY - The junior trio of Genna Kovar, Arielle Williams and Darrah Rachman combined for four goals and one assist, and classmate Amanda Heyde made three saves for her first shutout of the year to lead the Hofstra Pride to a 5-0 non-conference victory over the Fairfield Stags at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Pride, who won their second consecutive game and their fourth in the last five contests, improve to 4-3 on the season while Fairfield falls to 4-4.

Kovar tallied two second half goals, Williams posted a goal and an assist in the first half and Rachman also added a first half tally. Heyde recorded her third career shutout for the Pride with one whitewash coming in each of her seasons.

The Pride jumped on the Stags just 3:20 as sophomore Micaela Gallagher took a rebound off the pads of Fairfield goalie Maddy Sposito (5 saves), who stopped a Krizia Layne shot, and put it into the goal for her first tally of the season. Williams gave the Pride a 2-0 lead 15 minutes later off a penalty corner with Layne pushing to freshman Dieke ter Weel, who stopped the ball for Williams' third goal of the year. Williams did everything but score Hofstra's third goal of the game at the 25:48 mark, carrying the ball in through the circle and firing a shot that was deflected by Rachman in the goal mouth for her third tally of the season.

Hofstra boosted the lead to 4-0 five minutes into the second half when Kovar carried the ball into the circle and fired a shot past Sposito. Kovar notched her second of the game and eighth of the year in the 44th minute of the contest as Kovar took a pass down the right sideline, cut along the goal line and then beat the Stags'  goalie. Kovar's two goals give her 28 in her career to move her past Kara McEneaney (2003-06) into fifth place on the all-time Hofstra goals list.

The Pride outshot Fairfield, 17-8, and had eight penalty corners to the Stags' five. Hofstra returns to action on Sunday (Sept. 19) at 2 p.m. when the Pride host Siena College at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium.
