Albany, NY - The Hofstra Pride Field Hockey team opened its 2010 campaign with a 3-0 loss to the Terriers of Boston University in the first round of the Capital Land College Classic at the University of Albany Saturday afternoon.

In the season opener for both teams, the Terriers jumped on top early scoring 6:13 into the contest. Boston's junior forward Andrea Greene, a three-year member of Chile's Junior National Team, scored her first of two goals off a penalty corner with assists from senior midfielder Maryette Stuart and sophomore midfielder Nichole van Oosterom for a 1-0 lead.

Just 3:43 before halftime, Greene tallied her second goal of the contest on a two-on-one situation against Pride junior goalie Amanda Heyde after a tipped pass. Terrier sophomore forward Leslie Zyles fed Greene the ball and was credited with the assist. The Pride was outshot 9-3 with Heyde making four saves in the Hofstra goal in the first half.

The Pride was more aggressive in the second half but the Terriers boosted the lead to 3-0 just 2:30 into the period as senior forward Allie Dolce, the America East's 2009 Midfielder of the Year, scored on a similar two-on-one situation against Heyde. Boston's Macey Gaumond assisted on the goal.

Hofstra put on the pressure in the second half as Terrier sophomore goalie Julie Collins, who came in at halftime for starting senior Amanda Smith (1 save), made three saves to keep the Pride off the board. Hofstra outshot Boston, 6-4 in the second half. Senior forward Nancy Wagenbrenner and sophomore Krizia Layne each took two shots for the Pride in the contest.

The second and final round of the Capital Land College Classic begins at Noon on Sunday with the Pride (0-1) facing the host Albany Great Danes (1-0), a 3-2 overtime winner over CAA-member Virginia Commonwealth (0-1). Boston University (1-0) will face VCU at 2:30 p.m.
