Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University senior midfielder Corrine Gandolfi and junior defender Katie Hertsch were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Mid-Atlantic Region First Team, while senior attack Liz Falco earned second team accolades it was announced this morning.

The IWLCA honored 128 student-athletes in Division I with a selection on one of the All-Region teams for 2010. These athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on Monday, May 31. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on June 12, 2010 at the Crowne Plaza Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.

It is the second consecutive year that Gandolfi has earned first team all-region honors, and this marks the first all-region accolade for both Hertsch and Falco.

Gandolfi, a first team All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) performer this season, led Hofstra in every statistical category in 2010.  She compiled 49 goals, 22 assists, 71 points, 41 ground balls, 61 draw controls and 30 caused turnovers.  She left her mark throughout the Hofstra record books as her 148 career goals ranks third all-time, while her 61 assists is fourth and her 209 points is third all-time.  She is just the fourth player in program history to reach 200 career points.  Gandolfi was a third team IWLCA All-American in 2009 and will look to become only the fourth player in school history to garner IWLCA All-American honors twice in their career.

Hertsch, also a All-CAA first team selection earlier this month, was Hofstra's top defender all season.  She was second on the team in ground balls and caused turnovers with 34 and 18, respectively, while also adding 31 draw controls.  Hertsch now has 105 career ground balls, 48 caused turnovers and 82 draw controls.  She ranks in the top ten all-time in all three categories and will look to become only the fifth player in program history to record at least 100 ground balls and draw controls in their careers when she returns next season.

Falco rounds out Hofstra's three honorees on the all-region teams.  Falco spent two seasons in a Pride uniform and earned All-CAA honors in both as she followed up her 2009 second team selection by earned first team honors in 2010.  Hofstra's second-leading scorer this season, Falco had 31 goals and 13 assists for 44 points.  She also added 19 draw controls, 11 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.

The Pride finished the 2010 campaign with a record of 12-6, advancing to the CAA Championship game for the first time since 2007.  Hofstra had three victories over nationally-ranked teams this year and all of their losses came against teams ranked in the top 11 in the nation at the time of the contest.  Hofstra was ranked 15th in the nation in the most recent IWLCA/Under Armour Coaches Poll released on May 10.
