Hempstead, N.Y. - Senior guard Charles Jenkins (Queens, N.Y.) had 19 of his 26 points in the second half to lead the Hofstra Men's Basketball team to a 74-62 win over Towson in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at the Mack Sports Complex.

Sophomore forward David Imes (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for Hofstra, which picked up its third win in a row and improved its record to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the CAA. Towson slips to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference with the loss.

Hofstra used a 9-0 run to turn a 57-57 tie into a 66-57 lead with 3:38 to play.  A three-point play from Imes with 6:18 to go put the Pride in front for good 60-57. Imes hit a baseline jumper to extend the lead to five, Hofstra's largest lead since 7-2, and a fast break lay-up from junior guard Dwan McMillan (Queens, N.Y.) off a Jenkins feed pushed the lead to 64-57. Two free throws from Mike Moore (New Haven, Conn.) pushed the lead too 66-57, capping off the 9-0 run, and Hofstra wasn't threatened the rest of the way.

Hofstra trailed 34-29 at the break, but Jenkins scored the first five points of the second half on two foul shots and a three-pointer to get the Pride even. A pair of Jenkins foul shots with 11:44 left put Hofstra in front 48-46, and  Imes had a fast break lay-up to stretch the lead to four. Three-pointers from Josh Brown and Troy Franklin tied the score at 52-52 with 8:30 left, but a three-pointer from Jenkins with 7:40 to go gave Hofstra the lead back.

Rashawn Polk answered with a three for the Tigers, but McMillan converted a scoop shot to give the Pride a 57-55 lead. Josh Brown answered with a lay-up, tying the score at 57-57, setting up the Pride's late run.

Neither team was able to gain any separation in the first half until Towson used a quick 8-0 run, keyed by five points from Isaiah Philmore, to take a 30-23 lead. Hofstra got back within 30-29 on a pair of baskets from Moore, but Braxton Dupree had a putback at the first half buzzer to give the Tigers a 34-29 lead at the break.

Jenkins shot 9-14 from the floor and added five assists and four rebounds, as he raised his career total to 1,923 points, the highest total of any active player in the country. Moore finished with 15 points and McMillan added 10 points, five assists and five steals, as Hofstra had four players in double figures. Philmore and Polk led Towson with 15 points apiece and Troy Franklin added 12.

Hofstra was a perfect 12-12 from the foul line on the day, and had 16 assists and only six turnovers (one in the second half). Senior forward Greg Washington (Centereach, N.Y.) added five blocked shots defensively for the Pride.
