SB: Pride Signs Reid, Trippi To Class Of 2015

11/17/2010 5:22:00 PM

Hempstead, N.Y. - The Hofstra Softball program signed infielder Lindsey Reid (Bear, Del./Caravel Academy) and catcher Erin Trippi (Lyndhurst, N.J./Paramus Catholic) to letters of intent during the early signing period, it was announced today by Head Coach Bill Edwards.

Both players are coming off strong junior seasons to help their high school teams to deep postseason runs. Trippi earned all-state honors while leading Paramus Catholic to a conference title and an appearance in the NJSIAA state finals. Reid earned all-state honors in Delaware while leading Caravel Academy to its second straight state championship.

"Both Erin and Lindsey have played at a very high level in travel ball, playing against some of the best Gold teams in the country, and they both have had outstanding success with their high school teams," said Edwards. "They are perfect fits for what we need and we are unbelievably excited to have them join us."

Trippi has batted over .500 for each of the last two seasons for Paramus Catholic. She led the league in RBI as a sophomore (35), and then batted .550 with 29 more RBI as a junior. She also had no passed balls in 30 games behind the plate as a catcher, and was an All-Bergen County selection. Her two-run homer in the first inning of the conference championship game helped Paramus Catholic to a 5-0 win after runner-up finishes in each of the previous two years. She is also currently a member of the New Jersey Pride Gold team.

"Erin is just a natural hitter," said Edwards, "and that's something that you just can't coach. In addition, her catching skills and her overall softball skills have improved so much in the last two years that we expect her to have an immediate impact. She has a rocket for an arm, and she'll help provide the power in the line-up that we lose with this year's senior class."

Reid has been a key part of a Caravel team that has won two straight state championships after a runner-up finish in 2008. Reid was the No. 9 hitter as a freshman, but has moved up to bat both leadoff and clean-up in the order last year. She has earned first-team all-state honors for two years in a row while playing second base, while she can also play a multitude of other positions as well. Caravel was the top-seeded team in the state tournament after a strong regular season (15-3). Reid also has played her travel ball for the Pennsbury Gems.

"Lindsey brings just a ton of softball enthusiasm and knowledge of the game," said Edwards. "She gives us the versatility to play a lot of positions, and she is just an outstanding all-around softball player. She has the ability to play with a very high energy level and still be fundamentally sound."

Hofstra is coming off a season which saw it finish 45-12, win the Colonial Athletic Association regular season and postseason titles, and reach the NCAA Regional finals, when it fell to eventual runner-up Arizona in 12 innings.
