Hofstra University junior guard Nathaniel Lester was named the GoHofstra.com Student-Athlete of the Week, it was announced today.

Lester had a key role in the Pride's 67-63 win over Florida Atlantic on December 29. Lester scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half as leading scorer Charles Jenkins was in foul trouble down the stretch. With the Pride holding a one-point lead in the final minute, Lester read an alley-oop play from Florida Atlantic and stole the ball in front of the rim to preserve Hofstra's one-point lead. He then hit two pressure-packed foul shots at the other end to enable the Pride to hold on for the win.

In Hofstra's game on January 2 against 10-2 William & Mary, Lester recorded the fifth double-double in his career, tallying 14 points and 10 rebounds in a 48-47 defeat, leading Hofstra in scoring for the second game in a row. He nearly had another double-double at George Mason on January 4, finishing with nine points and nine rebounds to conclude a week in which he averaged 13.3 points and 8.7 rebounds.

For the season, Lester is averaging 10.7 points and 5.9 rebounds, ranking second on the team in both categories. He is also the top free-throw shooter on the Pride at 81.0 percent.
