PRIDE PLACE 20TH AT THE IC4A UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIP

Bronx, NY - Junior Phil Giackette placed 84th to lead the Hofstra men's cross country team to a 20th-place finish at the season-ending 2009 IC4A University Cross Country Championship at Van Cortlandt Park Saturday.

Giackette, a native of Ozone Park, New York, clocked an 8K time of 27:39 to finish 2:03 behind individual champion Christian Baumbach from New Jersey Institute of Technology. The Pride tallied 631 points in the meet as Temple University captured the team title by placing three runners in the top six and finishing with 70 points. Albany was second with 131 points and New Hampshire was third with 147 points in the 24-team field.

Hofstra sophomore Fred Shattell was the Pride's second finisher, posting a time of 28:33 to place 127th while freshman Kyle Wightman was 139th in 28:49. Sophomore Derek Lockwood was 182nd in 30:20 and senior Robbie Wright was 202nd in 34:24.
