Shortstop Aileen Morales was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three stolen bases to lead Georgia Tech to a 7-2 win over Hofstra on Saturday afternoon at the NFCA Leadoff Classic.
The loss was Hofstra's third in a row and drops its record to 7-6 on the season. Georgia Tech improves to 6-10 overall with the win.
Georgia Tech broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning which featured seven hits. Three straight singles started the inning, and a two-run triple from right fielder Blair Shimandle helped break the game open.
Hofstra got one run back in the bottom half of the inning, as two errors around a single from junior second baseman Casey Fee (Long Beach, NY - pictured) loaded the bases with nobody out. Junior catcher Carolann Lubach (Langley, WA) had a sacrifice fly to drive home a run, but pitcher Whitney Humphreys was able to get out of hte inning with no further damage.
The Pride once again loaded the bases with nobody out in the seventh on two walks on a hit by pitch, but could only push across one run on an RBI groundout from senior shortstop Pam Dreslinski (Kingsville, OH) to make the final score 7-2.
Junior Kayleigh Lotti (South Attleboro, MA) took the loss in the circle for the Pride to fall to 2-4.
Hofstra will be back in action later tonight when it takes on Illinois State, before closing out the Leadoff Classic against Charlotte tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
