2/20/2008 7:30:00 PM

Hofstra alumnus Athan Iannucci of the National Lacrosse League's Philadelphia Wings has been named the NLL's Player of the Month for January.

Iannucci, a second-year forward, led the league with 14 goals in January, despite playing just three games. The 25-year-old right-hander also scooped 32 loose balls and added seven assists for Philadelphia.  The Hofstra University graduate was drafted by the Wings in the first round (eighth overall) in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft.

A 2006 second team All-American with the Pride, Iannucci was a two-time All-Colonial Athletic Association selection. He was also voted the CAA Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player as Hofstra captured the league title, went on to a 17-2 record and advanced to the NCAA Championship quarterfinals. Iannucci broke the school record with 62 goals as a senior and posted the fourth-most points in a single season with 80 (62G, 18A).

Iannucci, a native of Coquitlam, BC, Canada, finished his three-year (2004-06) Hofstra career third on the career goal scoring list with 104, and recorded 146 points in 48 games.
