AGUDIO NAMED CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

1/2/2007 5:00:00 PM

Junior guard Antoine Agudio (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman - pictured) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced today by the league office.

Agudio was named the Most Valuable Player of the Aeropostale Holiday Festival on Dec. 28-29 at Madison Square Garden, after helping the Pride capture the tournament title with wins over Saint Joseph's and Saint John's. Agudio had 14 points in the 65-63 win over Saint Joseph's on Thursday, then tallied 24 points in the 63-51 championship game win over Saint John's on Friday. The two wins improved the Pride's record to 8-4 on the year, including 8-1 in its last nine games.

The Holiday Festival championship was the Pride's third in five all-time appearances at the tournament, while its win over Saint John's marked the fourth year in a row that it has defeated the Red Storm, all of which have come by double-digit margins. Agudio's 24 points against Saint John's was the most ever for a Hofstra player at the Holiday Festival, eclipsing the 23 points that Norman Richardson had against Georgia Tech in 1998.

Agudio currently averages 18.5 points per game, making him one-third of the highest scoring backcourt trio in the country. Loren Stokes (Buffalo, NY) averages 20.3 points, while Carlos Rivera (San German, PR) averages 11.5 points, giving the Pride 50.3 points amongst its top three guards. Wyoming (50.1 ppg) has the second-highest scoring backcourt trio in the nation, through games of Dec. 31.

Agudio and the Pride will next be in action when they travel to UNC Wilmington on Wednesday evening at 9:30 p.m. The game will be televised locally on Fox Sports New York.
