Three members of Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team's freshmen class were recognized nationally recently as Inside Lacrosse Magazine named freshman goalie Mary Cuddihy (Manhasset, NY/Manhasset) its 10th best recruit of the current freshmen class and Cuddihy, freshman midfielder Corrine Gandolfi (Northport, NY/Northport) and freshman midfielder K'Leigh Vanaman (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) were all named to the 2006 US Lacrosse Women's Division High School All-American teams.
Cuddihy was featured in the September 25 edition of Inside Lacrosse Magazine, where she was named the 10th best incoming recruit. Cuddihy was the only goalie listed amongst the ten and was the only player from the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) included. The story can be found on page 122 of the edition which features Shamel and Rhamel Bratton on the cover.
Inside Lacrosse Magazine writer Andy Bilello commented on Cuddihy
"Cuddihy has quick reactions and cuts down shooting space by attacking the play in front of her. Her athletic style was evident in the Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic, when she wasn't afraid to confront the nation's top attackers."
In addition to the Inside Lacrosse Magazine accolade, Cuddihy, Gandolfi and Vanaman earned US Lacrosse All-American honors. With three freshmen high school All-Americans on the roster, the Pride now boasts a total of seven US Lacrosse High School All-Americans on its 2007 roster. During their scholastic playing days, senior attack Kimberly Hillier (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale), senior midfielder Casey McGrath (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park), junior goalie Maisie Osteen (Charlottesville, VA/Charlottesville) and sophomore midfielder Lauren Whitcomb (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) all earned high school All-American honors from US Lacrosse.
Hofstra finished the 2005 season with an overall record of 11-7 and a CAA mark of 5-2. The Pride advanced to the CAA title game for the second consecutive season and put together an eight-game win streak during the year, the second-longest in program history.
The Pride opens up its 2007 campaign on February 24 when they travel to Loyola College (MD) for a 4 p.m. contest. Hofstra's first home contest will be on Friday, March 9 when they host the University of Denver at 7 p.m.
